Inclusive Recruiting, Promotion and Retention Practices
This initiative will focus on developing and diversifying the internal and external candidate pools for future vacancies at the Library. Additionally, this project should:
- Create pathways for entry into Library work and develop promotional paths within the Library for a diverse pool of candidates
- Reduce the impact of bias on hiring and promotional activities within the the Library

Intended Outcomes
Improved recruitment, selection, promotion and retention of diverse staff and Librarians by:
- Completion of the UC Learning Managing Implicit Bias training series training by all Library staff, student employees, and librarians
- Each employee will have an understanding of implicit bias and how it impacts our work at the Library.
- Employees will be able to identify ways to reduce the impact of implicit bias in the Library and on campus.
- Employees will be able to enact de-biasing strategies that support the Library’s vision, mission, and strategic plan.
- Completion of the EDI in Action series, Inclusive Manager's Toolkit leadership development program, and Inclusive Recruitment Series in 2023
- All employees are invited to participate in the EDI in Action and Inclusive Recruitment Series (approximately 12 hours of total engagement)
- Employees will develop understanding of the definition of social justice and its connection to our strategic plan
- Employees will be able to identify EDI-focused approaches to their work and recommend strategies to include EDI concepts into planning, discussion and decision making
- Employees will be able to model EDI-informed leadership practices in their work
- Complete a review of existing EDI-focused working groups and committees and articulate appropriate structures to support EDI work in the Library
