Personal Acknowledgments

I thank my wife, Bonnie Burns Chatfield, for her support and encouragement during the prolonged and seemingly never-ending creation of the Documentation Project publications.

Bonnie Burns was a young English teacher from San Francisco when our paths crossed in May 1965, a few months before the start of the Delano Grape Strike. We were both involved in a summer school project catering to farmworker children in Delano and in the Cottonwood Road and La Loma areas of Bakersfield.

Four of our daughters-Clare, Sarah, Kate, and Amy-were born during our years of service in the farmworker movement. Our fifth daughter, Anne, was born after we had left the movement, and she is the only one who enjoys eating menudo.

A special thank you to Clare Chatfield, who provided all the copy-editing services for the essays and the author bios.

-LeRoy Chatfield
