FAST AT THE FORTY ACRES (Photo Essay)
In the Spring of 1968, Cesar Chavez fasted for 25 days to recommit his farmworker movement to nonviolence. The Fast took place on the outskirts of Delano at the union headquarters called Forty Acres. The commentary for these photos was written by LeRoy Chatfield.

Farmworker union organizer and crossbearer, Lupe Murguia, has led the religious procession and now stands with the priests on stage who make ready to officiate at the Catholic Mass. Franciscan priest, Mark Day, will say the Mass and to his left stands Father David Duran, a priest of the Diocese of Fresno and a former CPA who supervised the books of accounting and the audits of the farmworker movement.
